What Is a Facial Hair Transplant or Eyebrow Transplant?

Many patients come to us for a facial hair transplant or eyebrow transplant procedure to transfer hair grafts to their brow area. Although you may have used eyebrow makeup pencils or semi-permanent tattoos in the past to help you achieve your desired eyebrow appearance, these results are only temporary. An eyebrow transplant helps people achieve the eyebrow thickness, shape, or arch they desire with permanent, lasting results. There are many reasons for facial hair loss, including genetics, burns, scarring, aging, electrolysis, and overzealous tweezing or waxing over the years. Utilizing automated follicular unit extraction, or automated FUE, we transfer hair follicles from your scalp to your brows. We also use the trichophytic donor closure technique to minimize scarring from the procedure.

How Long Does an Eyebrow Transplant Surgery Take?

During an eyebrow transplant procedure, we transfer your scalp hair follicles one by one to your brows. The amount of time this process takes depends on the area of coverage, but most procedures take two to three hours. Eyebrow and other facial hair transplants are usually outpatient procedures using local anesthesia, with minimal downtime and recovery required afterward.

How Long Do Facial Hair or Eyebrow Transplant Results Last?

Individual results may vary, but most patients achieve desirable, lasting results with our facial hair transplant procedures. You should notice transplanted hairs falling out after a few weeks. Don’t be alarmed – this is a normal part of the process. New permanent hair growth should occur over the next few months. Whether you need a minor eyebrow fill-in or a full beard transplant, we customize our hair restoration treatments to fit every patient’s needs. Check out our before-and-after gallery to get inspired by past facial hair and eyebrow transplant success stories. Having full, expressive eyebrows free of bald patches is a beauty trend that will never go out of style!

Where Are the Hairs Taken for Eyebrow Transplantation?

Hair follicles, or grafts, are usually transferred from your scalp (where your hair grows thicker) to your brows one at a time during our eyebrow transplant procedure. We take special care to ensure your eyebrow hairs are pointed in the correct position once transplanted for the most natural-looking results.

What Are the Risks Associated with Eyebrow Transplantation?

As with any type of surgery, there are risks associated with eyebrow transplants. However, they do not often occur, especially if you’re careful about following our post-operation instructions. Risks may include excessive bleeding, nerve damage, severe swelling or bruising, infection, or scarring. Talk to our doctors about any underlying health conditions, medications you take, and any additional concerns.

Do I Need to Be Asleep for an Eyebrow Transplant Procedure?

We generally perform eyebrow transplants while our patients are under local anesthesia, meaning you will most likely be asleep during the procedure. If you want to remain asleep during the entire procedure, you may wish to discuss sedation options in more depth with our doctors.

What Is Recovery Like After a Facial Hair Transplant?

Individual experiences may vary, but most patients notice minimum discomfort, swelling, sensitivity, or redness after a facial hair transplant procedure. Minor scabbing around your eyebrows within the first few days is common. You must refrain from touching or picking at these scabs, so your eyebrows can heal properly. Please contact our office immediately if you notice any signs of infection, bleeding, or pus around your eyebrows. You may wish to trim your transplanted hairs to your desired eyebrow length.

Are Eyebrow Transplant Costs Usually Covered by Insurance?

Most facial hair transplant costs are not covered by health insurance because this type of surgery is primarily considered cosmetic. If you require an eyebrow transplant as reconstructive surgery after an accident, your insurance may provide coverage. Prices will vary by provider. You may discuss the costs during your consultation. Be sure to ask your specific insurance provider if you’ll receive any coverage.
