At Virginia Surgical Hair Center, we place a premium on patient comfort and happiness. Hair loss is a real problem, and it demands serious medical professionals to solve it. Fortunately, our team possesses over 25 years of experience in the hair restoration field, which allows us to deliver excellent care to everyone who enters our doors. We treat both men and women who are seeking answers to their hair loss problems. We also provide answers to some of the most frequently asked questions our patients ask our specialists. Learn more about hair transplants below and schedule an appointment with our McLean, VA hair transplant clinic to begin your journey to better hair.

What Causes Hair Loss?

Numerous factors cause hair loss. Chemotherapy, burns, and other non-genetic influences can cause hair loss. But the most common is male and female pattern baldness. These two conditions account for the vast majority of hair loss in the United States. Fifty percent of men have a 50/50 chance of experiencing significant hair loss in their lives, and female pattern baldness is more common than you might think. The treatments used to rectify the situation work in all situations, though.

What Is a Surgical Hair Transplant Procedure?

We offer three primary surgical hair transplant procedures at our clinic. Each one is slightly different and gives patients distinct advantages over the others. Unfortunately, which procedure we choose often depends on circumstances that are out of your control. That’s why we offer free consultations. We examine your hair and determine which surgery will work best for you:

  • Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE): This procedure allows us to lift individual hair follicular units from your scalp and move them elsewhere to thicken thinning areas.
  • Trichophytic Donor Closure Technique: This technique is popular with patients who want to minimize scarring, as it is a non-invasive procedure that camouflages the treatment.
  • FUT Hair Transplant: FUT hair transplants require hair from a donor, but they are effective and safe, which makes them ideal for some of our patients.

Are Hair Transplants Permanent?

Yes! However, we do want to make you aware of the waiting period the comes with any of our treatments. You shouldn’t expect immediate or magical results. Instead, we encourage each patient to remain patient while the transplant project works in phases. For instance, while results may vary, most people can return to work two to five days after we operate. Two to three weeks later, the transplanted hair falls out. But don’t worry, hair transplants stimulate new growth. Most people experience up to 60 percent of new growth after six to nine months. The wait will be worth it.

How Long Does It Take for Beard Transplant Hairs to Come In?

As with hair transplants, you shouldn’t expect immediate results from a beard transplant. It takes time. After the surgery, you can expect gradual effects to occur in a series of stages. First, the transplanted beard hair falls out a few days following the procedure. Then, new beard follicles will begin growing – slowly – after the transplanted hair falls out. After 90 days or so, most patients start to notice serious growth and coverage, with the final results showing up after roughly nine months.

How Long Can I Grow My Beard Transplant?

We offer a nuanced and highly-personalized process. That means our patients can select the beard shape, thickness, and style they want. While it’s not an exact science, many patients are thrilled to know they will have some measure of control over their beard growth. How long it takes will depend on several factors, so we encourage you to communicate your concerns with our specialists.

How Does Surgical Eyebrow Transplanting Work?

Genetics, diseases, burns, chemotherapy, and other factors can all make it challenging or impossible to grow eyebrows. Eyebrows are a prominent feature on any face. During an eyebrow transplant, we use hair from donors or elsewhere on your body to surgically implant new eyebrows.

How Far Can a Transplant Lower My Hairline?

Typically, hair transplants lower the hairline anywhere from two to four centimeters, but results will vary from patient to patient.

How Effective and Safe is Non-Surgical Laser Treatment?

Non-surgical treatments are perfect for patients who do not want to undergo invasive surgery. As for whether they’re safe or effective, Virginia Surgical Hair Center would never offer a procedure that is ineffective or unsafe. As a result, you can feel comfortable and free to explore non-surgical laser treatment.

Will People Be Able to Tell I Had a Transplant?

Hair transplants aren’t like wigs or hairpieces. They’re made from the real thing. If we use an FUE procedure, we’ll use your hair to thicken problem areas, and FUT surgeries use donor matches to transplant new hair. Everything will blend together as your hair grows over time, which will give your hair a natural look.
